Making complexity thinkable
Organisations are made of structures, policies and processes. But they are also made of people.
Where people work together, emotion, relationships, authority, anxiety, power, identity and group dynamics inevitably become part of organisational life.
Person & Mind offers psychologically and psychosocially informed consultation to organisations seeking to understand complexity rather than simply manage its symptoms.
Organisational Systems Thinking
A team described as resistant may be communicating something important. Repeated conflict may tell us something about organisational structure. A leader who appears to be struggling may be carrying pressures belonging to a much wider system.
High turnover, professional silos, difficult multidisciplinary relationships and repeated organisational tensions cannot always be solved through another policy or training programme. Sometimes the organisation needs somewhere to think about itself.
My approach draws upon social work, systems theory, psychosocial thinking, reflective practice and organisational learning.
Consultation may support:
- ✦Leadership and management development
- ✦Team dynamics
- ✦Multidisciplinary working
- ✦Professional identity and authority
- ✦Organisational culture
- ✦Reflective leadership
- ✦Workforce wellbeing
- ✦Conflict and communication
- ✦Service transformation
- ✦Equality, belonging and institutional experience
- ✦Organisational change
- ✦Reflective spaces following periods of significant pressure
The aim is to make organisational complexity understandable enough to work with.
Not every organisational difficulty can be eliminated. But complexity can become more thinkable, and when people can think, organisations can respond differently.
